30 buildings collapse, 115 others destroyed as rainstorm wreaks havoc in Oyo


No fewer than 115 houses were on Monday evening destroyed by the storm, which followed the heavy rain in Ago Are, Atisbo and Iseyin local government areas of Oyo State. Although no life was lost, Daily Sun learnt that about 30 houses collapsed during the rainstorm. The rain, Daily Sun gathered, started at about 7.30 pm and lasted about one hour. Some houses collapsed and others had their roofs blown away by the storm.

 Chief Taiwo Fabunmi, a community leader, whose house was affected, told Daily Sun that property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
 He pointed out that house owners were caught unawares, adding that a team of sympathizers, led by the council Chairman, Timothy had paid a sympathy visit to the affected house owners, while the landlords had been directed to compile a list of the affected houses with a letter to the state government for assistance.

 At Iseyin, five houses were destroyed while property worth millions of naira were damaged during the rain.

 Another resident, Alhaji Alhazan Abiodun, who spoke with Daily Sun confirmed that there were no human casualties.
