Residents of Odume area of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, woke up yesterday morning bewildered over the raping to death of a 16-year-old girl living in the area. The deceased whose name was not immediately known was found lying naked in a cassava farm. The girl, was said to have earlier been sexually abused by a neighbour who was now serving a prison term for the crime.
Our source said the 16-year-old girl was living with her parents in an uncompleted building in the area before the family was given a notice to quit the premises. Sources said following the quit notice, the parents of the deceased packed out of the place two days before the incident, leaving the girl to join them later. The source stated that in the morning of yesterday the body of the girl was seen lying in the cassava farm, naked.The incident attracted neighbours and passersby, including officials of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, who alerted the police. The police, it was gathered, removed the corpse.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased girl has been taken to the mortuary while the police are carrying out investigation to unravel those behind the act.
Contacted, the Divisional Police Officer for Awada, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ugwu, confirmed the incident and said the state Police Command was already carrying out investigation to find out those behind the crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka also confirmed the incident, adding that effort was already on top gear to find out those who committed the heinous crime.
