UPDATES: SCANDAL: Nollywood director in ‘mess’ with upcoming actress

Asaba-based movie director, Nonso Ekene Okonkwo, who was recently accused by an up and coming actress, Boma Tubonimi Arinyedokiari, of extorting  money from her, in addition to compelling her to sign a six-year contract with him, has decided to fight back by reporting the matter to the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Okonkwo said the essence of taking the matter to AGN was to enable the actor’s body investigate the actress’ allegation as well as recommend appropriate punishment for anybody that is found guilty of the offence.

“I have written officially to AGN and they are investigating the matter. After their investigation, if they find me wanting, let them apply appropriate punishment due for me and if she’s found wanting, then punish her accordingly,” Nonso disclosed.
The director, who owns Goldfish Productions, and had produced several  Nollywood flicks, such as “Mad House”, “Odega”, The Legend” and the yet to be released “The Spirit Girl”, said actresses, such as Mariam Orji, Rita Mbaduwa and Mandi Eze passed through his agency.

He explained that he set up the agency to help aspiring actors and actresses realise their dreams in the industry. “In the industry today, young girls and boys are coming into the industry without direction. I introduced this concept of signing on as a way of helping the aspiring actors and actresses realise their dreams in the industry. I offered them an opportunity to come under my company and I give them less than two years to hit stardom.

The first girl signed was Mariam Orji. Within two years, I exposed her to the industry and today, she is a star. She played lead role in my Royal Madness film, and Moonlight Girl, featuring alongside notable actors like Jim Iyke, Maji Machel and Oge Okoye. I also signed on Rita Mbaduwa and she enjoyed similar exposure, the same thing goes for Mandi Eze.

Contrary to Boma’s claim that she signed the contract under duress, she voluntarily came to me to be signed on.  “I don’t think I would have started with Boma baecuse I have a history of doing that for artistes. One of the people that stood as a witness for Boma was Mandi Eze. Until now, Boma has not written me officially nor confronted me.”
